John Williams releases new version of classic Star Wars theme, sadly not a trap remix
12 November 2018

Big Dog John Williams has done the music for eight whole Star Wars movies - that’s ridiculous, that is. That’s so much music, man. So much! And if that wasn’t enough (he’s also set to score Star Wars Episode IX), he’s also been busy reworking some of his themes for a new compilation performed by Grammy Award-winning violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, set for release next year.

And you can hear one of the reinterpretations ahead of the album right now, with his violin-version of ‘Across the Stars’ - the theme that backed the illicit romance between Anakin Skywalker and Padme in Star Wars: Episode 2 - Attack Of The Clones. Here it is in all its naughty-trist glory:

Shame it’s from Attack of the Clones, but you can’t have it all, can ya?

As far as Williams and his future with the main franchise, however, it looks like the next film will be his last. He told Los Angeles radio station KUSC:

“J.J. Abrams is preparing [Episode IX] that I will hopefully do next year for him.

“It will round up the series of nine that will be quite enough for me. Disney will take it further and they will probably continue on to do Star Wars for decades. So I think it’s all good.”

Episode IX hits cinemas December 20, 2019, but that’s not all the Star Wars work that Williams has one his plate - he’ll also be sorting the music (alongside Academy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino) for both Disneyland and Walt Disney World’s ‘Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge’ $2 14-acre theme park expansions, which will both open in 2019. That’s a lot of Starring, and a lot of Warring, for The John Man.

Oh and did we tell you he’s 86-years-old? Yep, still pumping it all out at that age - what an inspiration.
