Well, if you're going to ruin clowns for another generation of people, then you really have to do it properly don't you?

Director Cary Fukunaga, who is helming the remake of Stephen King's legendary It, has revealed new details about his work on the project, including his ongoing struggle to find the right actor to portray Pennywise the Clown, played so memorably by Tim Curry in the iconic 1990 TV miniseries.

Speaking to Brazilian newspaper O Globo, and translated by Bloody Disgusting reader Lucca Cantisano, Fukunaga he said that "This will be my first movie in the US and I'm still trying to find the perfect guy to play Pennywise".

In addition, he revealed that he's actually been working on It for a long time - despite his involvement only being revealed a year ago.

“I’ve been in this project for about five years. I had already read versions of the script but nothing felt right. Everybody tried to put too much into it, telling it from the perspective of the adult and the child in a two hour movie. It didn’t fit. So I decided to throw it all away and start from scratch." said Fukunaga.

He added that he had the blessing of Stephen King himself regarding his new take on the story, “It’s really good to know Stephen likes what we did. We [Fukunaga and writers David Kajganich and Chase Palmer] changed names, dates, dynamics, but the spirit is similar to what he’d like to see in cinemas, I think.”

So who should play Pennywise? And will the movie be worth the wait? It is still believed that it could be split into two films, like the original - will that work? Let us know in the comments below.
