'It: Chapter Two' will contain one of the book's scariest scenes

Biting off tongues? OK then

'It: Chapter Two' will contain one of the book's scariest scenes
14 September 2018

There’s a bit in the book IT, where Pennywise (the bad scary clown) wraps his tongue around the tongue of one of the Losers Club’s tongues (weird), they bite down then tell each other jokes until one of them laughs and loses, before being shoved off to the netherworld.

Obviously, in-keeping with the absolute smorgasbord of wonderful nonsense that is the second half of the book, this makes sense. However, trying to film it might seem a tad, silly, you know?

Still, director Andy Muschietti is gowna try it, baby, because why the hell not? In an interview with CinemaBlend, screenwriter Gary Dauberman said:

“The Ritual of Chüd is challenging, but it’s such an important component to the book that we had to address it.

“That stuff is difficult to balance, but because [director Andy Muschietti, producer Barbara Muschietti and I] worked with each other before, when I’m writing pages and all that stuff it becomes more of a conversation and less like, ‘Hey, here’s what I did.’ It’s sort of organic; it’s really kind of just chipping away at the stone and trying to find the most focused, accessible way into some of more metaphysical aspects of that book.

What a scary clown!

“[A]s I was kind of chugging along through the Adrian Melon [a tragic character from the book] stuff and sort of more the stuff that’s in the book that you kind of just want to see on screen. I’m writing that stuff, and Andy would kind of go off and think about Chüd and how he wants to visually represent all that stuff. He just came up with some brilliant, brilliant stuff… It really is going to be amazing.”

I mean, a clown licking a child’s tongue doesn’t sound amazing to us, but each to their own, we guess.*

It’s also not the only weird scene from the book that’s set to appear in the sequel - Muschietti has plans to include the a giant, mystical, talking turtle called Maturin the turtle. Again, amazing? Not sure, but you better believe we’re interested to see it - talking turtles are GREAT.

Either way, we’ll see how it all pans out on September 6 next year, when it’s finally released.

*Absolutely each NOT to their own
