Independence Day 2 Set To Star Liam Hemsworth and Jeff Goldblum
04 March 2015

There are few things in this world more frightening than realising how long ago one of your favourite childhood films came out. So, brace yourselves: Independence Day is 19 years old. That little kid who played Will Smith’s son is probably drinking absinthe through his eye as we speak, or worse, running a hedge fund.

That was the bad news. The good news is that next year, when the film turns 20, Independence Day 2 will be hitting our screens. And yesterday the director, apocalyptic wizard Roland Emmerich, confirmed that Liam Hemsworth and the returning (and frankly essential) Jeff Goldblum are set to star.

Hemsworth will play the son of Bill Pullman’s US President, with Pullman himself already confirmed to appear – no word yet on any stirring monologues but we live in hope. Goldblum will reprise his role as computer genius David Levinson.

Emmerich also confirmed that Jessie Usher, the lead of TV series Survivor's Remorse, has been cast as the central character of Will Smith’s son.

Smith himself will sadly not be returning, which Emmerich revealed last year in an interview with NY Daily News.

Today we celebrate our Independence Day 2, day.
