Watch the skies. Again.
Those pesky White House-smashing aliens from Independence Day are making a comeback. Now this is going to make you feel really old but the first film was released sixteen years ago this month and writer/producer Dean Devlin has been talking up the upcoming sequel.
He's been working with writer/director Roland Emmerich all over again and they've gone and worked out a "worthy" follow-up.
"We’re every excited about the idea of doing it," Devlin told The Hollywood Reporter. "Whether or not we can make this happen, if we can get all the pieces to come together, that’s gonna be challenging. But creatively, for the very first time since we did the original, I feel we have a worthy concept, a worthy path to go."
It's apparently taken so damn long as they resisted the idea of going for an instant money-maker that didn't stay true to the original. But all this time has given them some inspiration.
"I feel like we got it," he revealed. "I think it took a long time, but I feel like we finally got something that really feels like, 'that’s worth seeing as a sequel to Independence Day.' "
Whether or not Will Smith would return for the film which made him an A-lister is unsure.
This follows news that the original is getting a 3D re-release next summer.
Would you be up for a sequel?
