Gone Girl Sequel Might Happen
13 January 2015

Despite arriving with so much hype that it threatened to drown not only the film but entire countries, David Fincher's adaptation of Gillian Flynn's best-selling thriller Gone Girl was a hit with audiences and critics. It was arguably the most talked about film of 2014 thanks to countless think pieces all treating a Hitchcockian blockbuster as if it was a documentary about gender roles.

Given its monstrous worldwide box office take of $365 million, its no surprise that the word 'sequel' has been bandied around. In a recent interview with The Daily News, Flynn spoke about the possibility of Gone Girl 2: Gone Girlie Gone.

“There could be a sequel at some point if everyone is game to get the gang back together, it could be really fun a few years from now,” she revealed. "I would have to have the exact same people to do it — I would want Rosamund, Ben and Fincher to do it."

For those of you who haven't seen the film yet, we'd recommend clicking elsewhere about now. For those who have, then you'll be aware that the film ends with Nick deciding to stay with his sociopathic murderous wife, for the sake of an unborn child. While it delivered a satisfying final note, at least compared to the book, it also left our main couple both breathing, which means that Fox execs will surely be keen for more.

When asked about exactly what would happen, Flynn speculated: “We could pick it up and see what those crazy Dunnes are up to a few years down the road and if they got on — not well I don’t think.”

Thursday's Oscar nominations, predicted to include Rosamund Pike, could also help make a sequel more likely.
