First Trailer for Victor Frankenstein

First Trailer for Victor Frankenstein
19 August 2015

“It’s alive.”

Notice the lack of exclamation mark or Caps Lock? Let’s just say the first trailer for Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy’s thriller Victor Frankenstein is slightly more deadpan than you'd expect.

Much has changed of the Mary Shelley tale in this offbeat origins story. For one, McAvoy’s ambitious scientist is a lot less bonkers than previous depictions. For another, McAvoy has a (non-hunchbacked) assistant, Radcliffe’s Igor, who's far from terrifying and, if anything, a bit of a raconteur himself.

The pair are practically Sherlock and Watson of the science world as they get to work on animating the dead. Which obviously they do - and if there’s at least one faithful nod to previous depictions of the story, Frankenstein’s monster looks terrifying, bolts in the neck and all, before it inevitably runs amok.

Humorous, Hammer Horror-ish and mixing the creak-in-the-corner scare tactics with an epic looking steampunk world, we’re hoping it'll be a monster hit.

Victor Frankenstein will be released in cinemas in the UK on 4 December
