Daniel Radcliffe To Play Sebastian Coe

Daniel Radcliffe To Play Sebastian Coe

Daniel Radcliffe To Play Sebastian Coe
30 October 2013

Today's surprising movie casting: Daniel Radcliffe is to play Olympic gold medal-winner and triumphant London 2012 organiser Sebastian Coe in Gold.

The film won't be a full biopic of Coe, but a focus on his rivalry with Steve Ovett, in the lead up to the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games, in which the pair battled in both the 800m and 1500m. Gold will be directed by James Watkins (The Woman In Black) from a script by Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) and Will Davies (How To Train Your Dragon). It's based on the book The Perfect Distance by Pat Butcher (not that one, she's fictional and dead).

Radcliffe has a pretty busy year ahead of him. He's currently promoting the Alan Ginsberg movie Kill Your Darlings and also has Horns, in which he plays a young man who wakes up one day and discovers devil-like horns sprouting from his head, out next year. On top of that, he'll soon begin filming Frankenstein, in which he plays Igor opposite James McAvoy's crazed scientist. He'll need to save a bit of energy for all the running required on Gold.
