A bit of bad news here for those looking forward to the upcoming Carrie remake.

The much-anticipated Stephen King adaptation has been pushed from its original March 15 release date all the way back to October 18.

The horror film, directed by Boys Don't Cry helmer Kimberly Peircem, stars Chloe Grace Moretz in the title role and Julianne Moore as her domineering mother. It follows Carrie White, a bullied outcast at school who starts to realise she has telekinetic powers, which unleash themselves during a fateful prom.

The change of release date implies that either more work is yet to be done on the film, there are problems that need to be ironed out or, and this might be the most likely, the distributor Sony feels it might work best nearer Halloween.

It now joins other horror films out this Halloween such as Paranormal Activity 5 (yes, really) and haunted house movie Haunt.

Carrie will hit cinemas on October 18th
