There's a surprising new favourite to direct the next Bond film

With Daniel Craig already on board to reprise his iconic role in Bond 25, the spy franchise is now searching for its next director. After early favourite Dunkirk’s Christopher Nolan ruled himself out, a new contender has now emerged to take the reins of the mammoth project: Danny Boyle.

That’s right. According to Variety, MGM and Eon are looking to hire the 127 Hours director for the next installment of the Bond franchise. However, no formal offer has yet been made.

Quite frankly, we think this is an incredible idea. Here are just a few of the amazing films Boyle has directed:

• Trainspotting (1996)
• The Beach (2000)
• 28 Days Later (2002)
• Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
• 127 Hours (2010)

Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time Boyle has directed Craig in the spy role. Who could forget the now legendary moment during the Olympics opening ceremony when Bond escorted the Queen in an actually-hilarious-who-knew-the-Queen-would-genuinely-be-up-for-a-laugh ‘sky dive’?

Interestingly, there was speculation after the success of the ceremony in 2012 that Boyle could be offered the directing position back then. But speaking about whether he could direct a full-length Bond movie, Boyle told BBC Radio 4’s Front Row at the time: “No, I’m not very good with huge amounts of money. I did a film, The Beach, which was a proper Hollywood scale budget and it didn’t suit me.

“Certain people can handle that and I love watching those kinds of films, but I’m much better with a smaller amount of money and trying to make it go a long way.”

So, what do we know about the upcoming Bond 25 movie?

The release date has already been announced as November 8, 2019 in the US, with an earlier release in the UK.
