‘Black Panther’ has broken ‘Titanic’s’ epic, 21-year box office record

Since it’s release in January, Black Panther has been smashing box office records left, right and centre. It currently holds a Rotten Tomatoes score of 100% among top critics, with the glowing consensus: “Black Panther elevates superhero cinema to thrilling new heights while telling one of the MCU’s most absorbing stories – and introducing some of its most fully realized characters.”

And the film’s latest accomplishment is knocking Titanic of its position as the third top-grossing title of all time at the North American box office.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Disney and Marvel superhero movie’s total of $665 million has overtaken Titanic’s $659 million total, not adjusted for inflation.

Globally, Black Panther has now grossed $1.29 billion and currently ranks as the No. 10 top-grossing title of all time.

But, BP’s still got a way to go to beat out James Cameron’s other mega-film Avatar, which is still sitting pretty at No. 2 on the list ($760.5 million), while 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens retains the top spot ($936.7 million).
