These are the funniest and most memorable moments from last night’s BAFTAs

Daniel Kaluuya won for ‘Get Out’ and gave an *incredible* acceptance speech

These are the funniest and most memorable moments from last night’s BAFTAs
19 February 2018

Just like at the Golden Globes a few weeks ago, it was the Time’s Up movement that truly took centre stage at last night’s BAFTAs, with an important and powerful message about anti-harassment and gender equality.

There was even a protest before the show with a group of young demonstrators storming the red carpet wearing T-shirts emblazoned with the words, ‘Time’s Up Theresa’.

And to get you up to speed on all the most memorable moments, we’ve rounded up some of the best bits.

1. Daniel Kaluuya’s incredible speech after winning the Rising Star Award

It was one of the year’s best performances so it was no surprise when Get Out’s Daniel Kaluuya took home the award for Rising Star. In his incredible acceptance speech, the 28-year-old thanked his mum and cheekily ‘broke BAFTA rules’ by revealing the winners have a secret ‘countdown’ clock during their speeches.

He also gave a pretty cool fist bump to fellow nominee Timothée Chalamet from Call Me By Your Name

2. Salma Hayek hilariously shading the male Leading Actor nominees

Salma Hayek, who recently revealed her story of harassment at the hands of Harvey Weinstein in a powerful New York Times article, brought some amazing female power to last night’s ceremony. She opened up by saying: “In this very important and historical year for women, I am here on this legendary stage to celebrate… men.”

And when revealing the winner for Best Actor, she joked: “And the winner is: Frances McDormand… Just kidding. The BAFTA goes to Gary Oldman.”

Perfection.

3. Ridley Scott turns the air blue

Legendary director Ridley Scott shocked the audience when he dropped an s-bomb while accepting the BAFTA fellowship. He said: “It’s been 40-years in this business and this is the first time they’ve ever given me anything so I’m not going to go quietly.” Turning to a member of the audience he said: “Are you bored? Shit, are you alright?” Nice one Ridley.

4. Joanna Lumley’s superb hosting skills

Joanna Lumley did an incredible job as host last night and you can watch some of her best lines here.
