Most of us can’t start work without a strong hit of caffeine. Most of us won’t even get out of bed without a strong hit of caffeine.

Literary legends are not like most of us though, and their habits are therefore much weirder. Truman Capote could only write lying down, with a coffee in one hand and a cigarette in the other, the logistics of which we can only presume helped the creative juices flow.

These are the quirks that led to masterpieces.
