The best things to watch on Netflix this weekend
Tom Victor
31 August 2018

As we reach the end of the summer, it’s becoming far more socially acceptable to cancel plans out of fatigue and spend the weekend in front of the TV.

Fortunately, there’s a whole host of new stuff coming to Netflix in time for the start of September, even if some new seasons – like BoJack Horseman and The Good Place – aren’t arriving until later in the month.

Here’s a selection of the best new additions to Netflix that you can wrap your retinas around this weekend.

Gangs of New York

The big-budget 2002 Martin Scorsese flick, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Daniel Day-Lewis, is perfect for those of you keen on spending three hours engrossed in a big screen crime drama. With Scorsese’s The Irishman coming to Netflix in 2019, this could be a great warm-up

Marvel’s Iron Man 1, 2 and 3

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is adding new films on a regular basis, but now you can go back to where it all began. Robert Downey Jr made the role of Tony Stark his own, and all three of the films are available to watch from 1 September.

The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

Before Tom Cruise’s The Mummy there was Brendan Fraser’s The Mummy and it probably influenced a massive party of your childhood. All three parts of the trilogy, originally released between 1999 and 2008, will be available for your bingeing pleasure.

Moonstruck

A rom-com starring Cher and Nicolas Cage? What’s not to love about that? The film took home three Oscars in the late 80s – including one for Cher herself – and it’s an easy watch at just 1hr 42 mins.

 Ozark

The second season of the Netflix Original series is available in full after going live on 31 August. The crime drama stars Arrested Development’s Jason Bateman, who also directs a number of episodes of the show.

Bruno

If you’ve been engrossed by Who is America?, you could be tempted to take another look at Sacha Baron Cohen’s earlier work. Fortunately, Netflix has come through with the goods, adding Bruno to its catalogue in time for the weekend.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Somehow it’s 20 years since the film adaptation of Hunter S Thompson’s iconic book came to cinemas. You now have a chance to see how well the Johnny Depp/Benicio del Toro cult hit has stood the test of time.
