These are the best films and TV shows coming to Netflix UK in October

Roll up, roll up! It’s time to sink your teeth into the final season of House of Cards, the excellent second season of The Sinner and the full Lord of the Rings trilogy on Netflix in November

Next month sees the return of not one but TWO awesome, blockbuster TV shows on Netflix: the highly-anticipated final, Kevin Spacey-free season of House of Cards and the second season of The Sinner, which has already racked up a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score among top critics.

There are also some cool original Netflix films (Chris Pine’s Outlaw King and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs from the Cohen brothers) alongside the mother or all movie franchises, the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Basically, you’re gonna be trapped in your flat all of next month as you devour this superb streaming content.

House of Cards (Season 6)

Cast: Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Jayne Atkinson
Running time: 8x50 minutes

With Frank out of the picture, Claire Underwood steps fully into her own as the first woman president, but faces formidable threats to her legacy.

Critics say this final season is a winner, with Kevin Lever of FilmEra writing that “with Wright at the forefront of the show now, House of Cards shines as it did in its early years.”

The Sinner (Season 2)

The Lord of the Rings trilogy (The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, The Return of the King)

Cast: Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortensen
Running time: 2h 58min, 2h 59min, 3h 21min

What can we honestly say about this? It’s just Lord of the Rings, isn’t it. Probably the best film series ever made. If you’ve never seen it (WHY?!) then set aside a weekend. It’s totally worth it.

Outlaw King

Cast: Chris Pine, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Florence Pugh

This period drama follows Robert the Bruce’s battle to regain control after being made an outlaw by the King of England for taking the Scottish Crown.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs

Cast: James Franco, Brendan Gleeson, Zoe Kazan, Liam Neeson
Running time: 2h 12min

Saddle up for six tales about the American frontier from the unique minds of Joel and Ethan Coen, who wrote and directed this anthology.

The Other Side of the Wind

After being limbo for several decades, we’ve finally got a complete, restored version of Orson Welles’s unfinished film. This satire follows the final days of a legendary director striving for a comeback.
