A letter from George Lucas

The first word on our Star Wars edition

A letter from George Lucas

The man behind cinema’s most loved franchise welcomes you to ShortList’s Star Wars special

When I first set out to make Star Wars, I had always intended for it to be seen on the big screen. With the release of Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace, this will be the third generation that can see the film in theatres. When we originally made Episode I, we were pushing the boundaries of technology, which was fun and exciting. It was an exploration into the unknown. We’re now going through a new technological revolution that is set to change everything. Watching a movie in 3D is simply a better way to watch a movie. It’s like black and white vs colour. Watching a movie in black and white is fine, however, colour makes it look more real. With 3D, the depth brings reality to the digital characters, and you notice things in the background that actually impact the story. It becomes a truly immersive and overpowering experience.

Thank you for your continued support, enjoy this special Star Wars edition of ShortList.
