Fare Free Mondays return

How to travel for free on the tube today and the next two Mondays

Everyone loves free stuff don't they? Especially when you normally have no choice but to pay a crippling fee for a terrible service.

In completely unrelated news, if you own an Apple device, you can travel for free on the London Underground today and the following two Mondays.

Mastercard is running Fare Free Mondays for the second time, following the success of November and December's promotion; if you’ve linked your Mastercard to Apple Pay you can make use of the offer by downloading the Wallet app on an iPhone or Apple Watch.

Once you’ve gone through the relevant set-up procedure, you’re then able to allow your smartphone or watch to function as a contactless card by double clicking either the home button on your phone or side button on the watch before tapping it on the card reader at the station.

You'll then have your fares refunded by Mastercard.

As well as the tube, the free travel will also work on buses, trams, the Overground, DLR, most London National Rail services and the Emirates Air Line cable car, if you can avoid the enormous, ever-present queues to get on.

Sadly, if you've already purchased a season ticket or monthly travelcard, you won't be able to take advantage. So that's just one more thing to get annoyed about on a Monday morning. Sorry.
