Explained in their brilliant concise fashion, the team of AsapSCIENCE put together this neat online demonstration of the effects of the decay of your inner ear. While other organs can repair themselves over time, the cells in the inner ear just... well, they die. 

Sure, you're not going to hear many natural sounds in your life over 18,000Hz - but it still feels pretty devastating to be told you aren't hearing a noise people younger than you will almost certainly pick up on.
