How to travel for free on the tube today and every Monday until 14 December

We kid you not, this isn’t a joke. You could effectively travel for free on the London Underground every single Monday until 14 December.

Free travel will be provided to anyone using Apple Pay and a Mastercard, with your fare refunded by the two companies on specific dates.

The offer is part of ongoing support for Apple Pay by the TFL who initiated the payment scheme on the underground alongside Oyster and contactless credit or debit when it was launched back in the summer.

According to stats, almost 25 per cent of journeys are now paid for using a form of contactless payment.

If you’ve linked your Mastercard to Apple Pay you can make use of the offer by downloading the Wallet app on an iPhone or Apple Watch.

Once you’ve gone through the relevant set-up procedure, you’re then able to allow your smartphone or watch to function as a contactless card by double clicking either the home button on your phone or side button on the watch before tapping it on the card reader at the station.

This will work on iPhone 6, 6s and their plus sized additions.
