Sid Meier’s Starships Strategy Game Announced

Weeks. Months. Possibly the better part of a year. We're not sure exactly how much time we've soaked into the games of the legendary Sid Meier, but the total figure looks set to grow.

2K and Firaxis Games have announced that the latest title in Sid Meier's expansive Civilization series: Starships. Arriving later this year, the turn-based interstellar strategy game will see players leave the planet-bound constraints of previous games and take control of a fleet of starships, exploring the galaxy and building a federation to establish peace across the stars (you could almost say that they were Trek-ing, no?).

"When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story of Civilization: Beyond Earth. What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth?" said Meier of his latest game. "My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration."
