Official Rick and Morty VR game launches next week

4/20, because of course

Official Rick and Morty VR game launches next week
13 April 2017

After Adult Swim reverse trolled the world by actually releasing the Season 3 premiere on April Fools’ Day – much to the dismay of their understandably cynical fanbase – we now find ourselves waiting for the rest of the episodes to drop in the summer.

In the meantime, VR owners are being treated to an official video game based on the animated sci-fi sitcom, which Adult Swim and developer Owlchemy Labs will launch on April 20, a day better known to spliff-rollers with a waist-high pile of Jimi Hendrix records as 4/20. Inspired.

In the game, titled Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-Ality, you’ll play as a mute Morty clone. The show’s most recognisable locations – Rick’s lab, the family home, absurd alternate worlds – are all explorable in a first-person perspective, and much of what you see can be picked up, thrown or smashed.

Described by the publisher as a “fast-paced, chaotic VR adventure complete with mechanics and mayhem only possible in VR”, the game will released on Steam and Oculus Home for both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive headsets. PS VR misses out because it can’t do room-scale VR like its pricier counterparts.

We only have the US price right now, $29.99 (about £24).

Adult Swim released a brief trailer showcasing the game’s features last year. It really does look like a match made in heaven.
