NVIDIA Launches Netflix-like Games Streaming Service

The war for the living room is hotting up.

Apple has its touch-remote TV box, Google has a new app-streaming Chromecast - but NVIDIA has just announced the pricing of the box set to capture gamers' attention.

Revealed back in March, the NVIDIA Shield Android TV is a svelte, angular slab, more set-top box PC than true console. It supports a 'proper' gaming controller, streaming games in 4K via a monthly subscription service GeForce Now.

For a monthly subscription of £7.49 you'll be able to stream PC games from 'the cloud' (at 1080p, 60 frames per second, if you're a numbers man). A library of games will be available straight from launch (you can see the full list here), with brand new games purchasable for streaming (rather than download).

The Shield box also allows you to stream TV apps such as Netflix in 4K, browse through YouTube or skim the likes of BBC iPlayer.

There are two versions of the Shield box available - a 16GB version for £149.99 and a mighty 500GB £219.99. Subscribers get the first three months of GeForce Now for free.

So now it's going to be even harder to work out if you'll spend your weekend with Netflix and chill, or saving the Earth.
