Manic Mario Kart 8 trailer

We'd heard that the Rainbow Road had been closed for a lane extension, but we weren't aware just how much of an upgrade Nintendo were giving it.

In fact, all the circuits look huge, the power ups comically vicious and everything trundles along in glorious HD. If this new trailer for Mario Kart 8 were any more fresh and shiny, we'd be sick.

New powers include the Spin Boost, allowing you to gain speed by hitting your opponents, while the Piranha Plant item nibbles nearby racers. Mario's moustache even flaps in the wind!

Mario Kart 8 arrives on the Wii U on 30 May
