Glorious video game gifs

Remember the days when video games weren't about looking as realistic as possible? When 8-bit confinements saw illustrators and artists building world's of blocks and bricks that were beautiful in their other-worldly simplicity?

These simpler times are the stuff of dreams for Ubisoft developer Noirlac. He's curated an extensive tumblr of gaming characters and locations, layering single elements with subtle variations to bring the images to life in pulsating gif form. However, for reasons unbeknown to us Noirlac, never credits the games his art is based on - either to create a challenge for the rest of us or the result of sheer laziness.

Thankfully, the Norilac Sourced tumblr has emerged to help those of us not so up to scratch on our classic video game landscapes. But you knew where all of these came from anyway, yeah?

Here are some of our favourites:

X-Girl by Red-Zone

Robocop 3 by Digital Image Design

RED by Discovery

Super R-Type by Irem

The Quest by Penguin Software

Bionic Commando by Capcom

Vastness: Kuukyo no Ikenie-tachi by Mediax
