Epic Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare trailer

We have seen the future of warfare. It looks terrifying. And very, very shiny.

Since they became something of an annual affair Call of Duty games have lost their finesse. The multiplayer always manages to suck the hours from your weekend, but most new titles just bring a collection of new guns and new maps with which to make and kill new friends.

As such, we're thrilled to report that the latest trailer for Sledgehammer Games' Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare points toward the franchise returning to the Hollywood-beating scale of titles past.

When the world is crippled by an international terrorist strike, governments call upon the assistance of Jonathan Irons (Kevin Spacey), CEO of Atlas - a private military company with the largest, most advanced army on the globe. Peace is restored, nations rebuilt, but tensions loom in the background. We're not one to ruin a story line, but we'd bet all of Spacey's considerable wealth that Irons might not be the knight in shining armour he first appears...

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare arrives on consoles on 4 November 2014, with early previews of multiplayer rolling out 11 August 2014
