Most games developers wait for the eyes of the world to turn to big gaming events in order to show off their shiniest of new games. Not Gearbox Software.

The Borderlands creators have waited for the dust to settle and the hype to fade from this year's E3 before unveiling their first next generation game, Battleborn - and it looks splendid.

A blend of first-person shooter and battle arena strategy game, this riot of colour and explosions looks to blend characters from a variety of game genres: mini-gun wielding soldiers from the likes of Call of Duty stand alongside elfin warriors, showering arrows and bullets down on fantasy foe.

Multiple game modes will see players take on challenges in five player co-op, explore stories in single player campaign or engage in manic multiplayer battles, with a feast of characters to unlock along the way. Check out the launch trailer below for a taste of things to come.
