When man created Pong, the world rejoiced. Here was the electronic entertainment of the future every child had always dreamt of. There followed Atari, Nintendo, the PlayStation, The Sims... then, somewhere along the line things got really weird and now there's Hatoful Boyfriend - a pigeon dating sim.
Originally released online in 2011 to a collective raising of eyebrows and sideways glances, an enhanced remade collector's edition (or The Hatoful Boyfriend Summer of Dove Collector's Edition to give it its full title) will be arriving on Windows, Mac and Linux via Steam on 21 August.
Set in a dystopian future in which super-intelligent birds rule the Earth, players take on the role of a young girl who happens to be the only human invitee to the prestigious bird-only St. PigeoNation's Institute - the world's greatest pigeon high school. Still with us?
Players must then proceed to flirt their way through the school, taking part in classes to raise their stats and uncovering a dark secret regarding the human apocalypse and the uprising of the birds.
And yes, of course it's from Japan. The collector's edition will feature a graphically updated version of the game, a digital soundtrack and comic, PC wallpapers, and a virtual yearbook. To find out more and to pre-order the game, head here.
