The Sonic Wine Improver

A new 'sonic decanter' is promising to improve your new wines and reinvigorate your old ones, purely using ultrasonic technology.

The Kickstarter project, which has already raised $16,000 (£10,000) of its $85,000 (£53,000) goal, claims that its patented technology transforms the molecular and chemical structure of wine to improve it. Simply load up the device with your liquid and then use either the controls on the front, or a smartphone app, to set a time and type of wine, then sit back and let it work its magic. Rose, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Sangiovese and Chardonnay take 10-15 minutes, while Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah can be given up to 25 minutes.

It promises to work just as well on unopened bottles, as well as open - the only wines that remain unaffected are sparkling wines - as these contain carbon dioxide. Presumably these are already 'invigorated' enough.

For those sceptical, the company claims that the effects are 'permanent and measurable', with results 'in less than 20 minutes that are typically only possible with many years of aging in the right conditions'.
