The Smart Band That Improves Your Posture

The Smart Band That Improves Your Posture

The Smart Band That Improves Your Posture
25 November 2014

"Straighten your feet. Stop slouching. Lift those shoulders!" Classic mum stuff.

Having (hopefully) progressed beyond the ever-correcting gaze of the maternal eye, you've probably got a vacancy in the department of 'Posture Corrector' - which is where Arki comes in.

In addition to the usual fitness-monitoring tricks of counting your steps and sleep patterns, the main focus of Arki's six-axis motion sensor is to improve your posture (which is a cue for you to you sit upright in your office chair) by measuring the way you walk.

Worn on your wrist, the band monitors a range of motions to determine how well you're walking - from how quickly you swing your arm to the rotation of your body. It's then able to determine bad habits you might be picking up, like walking long distances with a hand in your pocket or reading a smartphone for extended periods. As soon as you begin to hunch your shoulders or unbalance your gait, Arki will notify you with a small vibration.

In addition to pestering you on your morning commute, Arki looks to improve your posture with its accompanying app: wearing the band on your non-favoured wrist allows it to calculate how unbalanced your body is, providing stretches and body exercises to help even out your kinks.

Available with a range (and boy do we mean range) of interchangeable straps, you can order an Arki from its Kickstarter project page for around £64 ($99).

Then again, Christmas is only a month away - you could always wait for your mum to tell you everything wrong with your spine at six paces?
