The Astonishing Smart Cup

If, like us, you’re still mesmerised every time you use a Thermos flask, you may want to sit down before ingesting this news. We’re introducing the flask of the future - the Vessyl smart cup.

Sugar, fats, protein, caffeine, sodium, whatever - this electronic container can detect what you’re drinking as you drink it, even displaying the nutritional content in real-time on the side of the device or sending the information to an android or iOS app via Bluetooth.

Seven years in development after it was originally commissioned by Californian scientist Justin Lee, the Vessyl has been nurtured by Yves Behar and his Fuseproject studio in the hope that people will soon want to track their fluid intake and health progress by the tumblers they sup from.

Need another reason to suspect it’s actually just an unused prop from the set of Spike Jonze’s recent sci-fi Her? The system can even tell the difference between drinks and brands, so not just milk and juice but Pepsi and Coke, too. All this in a number of seconds. Ludicrous.

No word as yet on when the cup will get a general release, nor on the price, but there is an accompanying company video (below) to give you more of an in-depth look at this space-age beverage holder...
