Our top 5 gadgets of the past 12 months

1. Apple iPad mini

Steve Jobs once asserted that an iPad mini would never work, but 2012 saw the late tech guru proven wrong. Access to the best apps, and the option of adding 4G internet, made it the best small tablet.

2. Samsung UE40ES8000 TV

This 40in Smart TV has the televisual trinity: 3D, LED and Wi-Fi. It also has Twitter access to tap into the social TV trend.

3. Canon EOS M

The long wait for the EOS M was worth every minute. It blurred the line between amateur and pro photography.

4. Kindle Fire HD

The Kindle e-reader leapt into the future and became a stylish portal into Amazon’s gigantic online entertainment store.

5. Humax DTR-1000 YouView

Turned out to be the killer catch-up TV box.
