Perfect fit 3D-printed earphones

Ears are weird. Find a pair near you and have a quick look. Ridiculous, aren't they? They curve, twist and meander all over the place - and all of them are unique, which makes finding a set of comfortable earphones an infuriating game of stuffing an assortment of plastic buds in your ear holes. Until now.

NORMAL claims it can make you a set of custom-made earphones to fit your ears and yours alone. First, users download the NORMAL app, which guides you through the process of taking photos of your ears using your phone's front camera. Once it's got enough snaps of your specific cartilage shape, you can then tweak the colour and design of your custom buds.

Then things get properly futuristic. By placing your order with the app, the NORMAL service 3D prints your earphones based on the information collected by the app and then posts them to you (what a time to be alive). These 'perfect fit' buds will help counter sound leakage, using every millimetre of your ear to direct your music into the curves of your ear canal.

Currently available in the US for $199 (£117) a pair, NORMAL promises that its service will soon be available in the UK. Until then, you'll just have to make do sticking poorly-fitting plastic into your head. Now, prepare to get freaked out by their promotional video...
