Ingenious anti-thief bike nut

Work was rubbish. The planning meeting didn't go well, you missed lunch and to make matters worse you're going to have to cycle home in the rain. You arrive at the bike racks to find someone has made off with your front wheel and proceed to question why the world hates you.

Anyone who has suffered a form of bike theft knows how infuriating the experience is - and how limited the number of bike security options are. Beyond D-locks and chains, it's a case of crossing fingers and hoping for the best. Until now.

A new tool to help fight off bike theft is the Nutlock - a (nearly) unique nut for your bike wheels. Replacing the standard six-sided nut that secures your wheels, the Nutlock is a custom engineered nut that can only be removed with the unique key that comes in your package.

Anyone looking to remove your wheels won't be able to use a standard adjustable wrench, but will have to own a key identical to your own.

Your own key can easily slip on your key ring, and even boasts a bottle opener (but don't drink and ride, okay?). Yes, this does mean you'll have some issues if you lose your key - but then you'll run into similar problems if you lose your D-lock key. Nutlock doesn't state how many variations on the key it supplies, but should you lose yours they'll be able to find you a new one.

Currently flashing past its Kickstarter goal, you can pick up a full set of Nutlocks and protect your wheels for around £25. Watch their bizarre Kickstarter pitch below.
