The Coffee-making alarm clock

With its shrill shriek and soulless blinking face, the humble alarm clock haunts the mornings of the working man like a grim spectre. But it doesn't have to be like this. Mornings could be a relaxed, blissful experience. Joshua Renouf knows how to make them just that.

This beautiful contraption is the Barisieur - the elegant alarm clock-cum-coffee maker you're going to wish occupied your bedside table.

While coffee makers with built in alarms are hardly new, none have looked as elegant as the Barisieur - nor have they sought to awaken sleepers with a soothing sound and aroma. The gentle clank of stainless steel balls boiling the water through induction heating start the ritual off, before the drip-fed filter system unleashes the holy scent of fresh coffee into your room.

The morning ritual of slapping at an angry screaming clock will be replaced by a night time ritual of filling the water container and filter. With draws for coffee and a cooled cylinder for milk, the Barisieur has it all - except a price tag. Or production line. For the moment, it's unfortunately a one-off concept for use by Renouf alone. Here's hoping someone snaps it up and gets it under our tree for Christmas.
