Calvin Harris and his decks

ltr calvin harris.jpg

“The piece of technology that is closest to my heart is Pioneer’s CDJ-2000 deck.

It allows me to play CDs as if they were vinyl; I can scratch the track back and select cue points and loops. They also have the ability to play off USBs and you can link them all together via a modem, so that you can use one USB or SD memory card across four different players. I love using the loop functions, and you can get some great sound effects with the pitch controls in their most extreme settings. That said, they’re no good when you’re on a plane. I bought an iPad to keep me occupied, and I’ll destroy anyone at Scrabble or Monopoly. That’s a challenge…”

Calvin performs at LED Presents Deadmau5 at Victoria Park, London on 11 June; ledfestival.net/deadmau5
