Facebook keeps banning posts about this UK town and here’s why

scunthorpe.jpg

Tinie Tempah hasn't been, and clearly neither has any of Facebook's programming team.

The North Lincolnshire town of Scunthorpe (population roughly 72,500) has fallen foul of Facebook's profanity algorithm - banning all mentions of the town in boosted posts.

The Independent reports that the band October Drift encountered the issue when they attempted to post an upcoming gig in the town: "As a band we like to promote our shows via Facebook, but Facebook has none of it when trying to boost the posts."

In case you're still at a loss as to why Scunthorpe might set off Facebook's profanity alarms, we'll give you a hint.

Got it? Yup, that's right, Facebook is flagging it due to a case of the ol' 'See-You-Next-Tuesdays'.

While you can post the name of the offending town in a normal post, the moment you use Facebook's paid-for boost service - that shares a post with more users that might have an interest in certain events or services - a notification will emerge saying the post is unsuitable.

This might explain why we haven't seen any posts for events on Cockbush Avenue, the annual Bitchfield cider gathering, or the Prickwillow fete.
