Apple is making its own Carpool Karaoke series

Android fan: "Apple is always copying other people's ideas! They never make their own original stuff!"

Apple fan: "No they don't!"

Android fan: "Well what about Carpool Karaoke eh?! EH?!"

This is the way we envisage smartphone fanboy spats taking place in the not too distant future, following Apple's announcement that it's entering the world of television production with its own show. Which is actually someone else's show, which borrowed an idea made popular by other shows.

Variety reports that the viral car sing-a-long segment of James Corden's Late Late Show is being spun off into its own standalone 16-episode series, set to air first exclusively to Apple Music subscribers.

There's no word on who will host the new show, as somewhat confusingly, the slot will continue to run on Corden's Late Late Show in its current format. A release date is yet to be announced.

"We love music, and Carpool Karaoke celebrates it in a fun and unique way that is a hit with audiences of all ages," said Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Internet Software and Services (sounds important, right?). "It's a perfect fit for Apple Music — bringing subscribers exclusive access to their favorite artists and celebrities who come along for the ride."

Who knows what Apple might add to its Music subscription service next: Comedians on Bikes drinking TeaMaking a Serial KillerBreaking Mild? We're sure they'll all be great.
