Manchester United's new Adidas Originals range might be the best retro apparel ever

Manchester United's new Adidas Originals range might be the best retro apparel ever
01 October 2015

Some things about football were just better back in the day.

Players didn’t throw themselves to the floor with all the drama of Willem Defoe in Platoon after being lightly nudged by a defender. Affording a match ticket and steak and kidney pie didn’t mean you’d have to sell an actual kidney. Oh, and the kits were cooler too. Much cooler.

How else do you explain the continuing rise of retro kits? A chance for every fan to literally stand out from the crowd, these jerseys are a flash of debonair terrace style without having to sacrifice your club colours.

And while fans of Manchester United might have already licked their lips over this season’s first-team Adidas shirt – marking the club’s first sponsored_longform with the German sports brand since 1982-1992 with a stripped back style – this new apparel from Adidas Originals is something rather special indeed.

Taking inspiration from the attire of the 1985 FA Cup winning team who beat Everton 1-0 after extra-time through a Norman Whiteside strike, the 11 standout pieces include a hero Manchester United anthem jacket referencing (the old) Wembley stadium, a classic v-neck cut collar shirt with the three strips design down the shoulder and other great attire which you could well see Bryan Robson rocking in his pomp.

With prices ranging from £28 up to £62, the limited-edition range is also fairly affordable. Which isn't often something we're used to hearing about the beautiful game anymore.

Take a look at some of the winning XI in the gallery below.

The kits are on sale from select Adidas and Manchester United stores now.
