Raf Simons & adidas AW14 collection

Future trainer manufacturing instructions: take one popular shoe silhouette, a range of outlandish fabrics, add a healthy dose of fashion designer vision and shake vigorously.

The results are fantastic.

Following one of the boldest releases of the summer, adidas and Belgian designer Raf Simons have renewed their twisted partnership for a similarly bonkers Autumn/Winter 2014 collection.

Sitting somewhere on a spectrum of shoe-to-installation art, the latest trainers picks up where the Spring/Summer range left off: metallic fabrics, extended soles and a snow boot that wouldn't look out of place on the Star Wars VII set.

Anyone wanting to dip their toe in this high-concept collaboration would do well to start with the orange Stan Smith model - they're in a slightly lower orbit than the rest of the range.
