Cutting-edge footwear hits the high street

Marc Hare unveils Topman collection
06 September 2011

These days, the shiny-floored catwalks of the fashion world and Britain’s chip-strewn high streets are closer than you may think.

Designers such as Matthew Williamson and Lanvin have brought ranges with scrum-inducing prices to H&M in recent times.

Now the shoemaker behind high-end brand Mr Hare is launching an enticing new wallet-friendly line. Marc Hare For Topman (as you may possibly guess) sees the lauded designer collaborate with the menswear behemoth for the first time on 10 new shoes that will be available for a quarter of the price of his usual creations. Not that there’s much skimping when it comes to style and quality.

The initial collection features a playfully re-proportioned take on a classic (‘The Oxford’), a pair of croc leather/suede combination hi-tops (‘The Sneaks’, above) and a sleek patent dress shoe with bold slashes of contrasting fabric (‘The Derby Shoe’).

They’re available at the flagship Oxford Circus Topman and online now — with the second half of the range due late October — and start from £85. Red carpet shoes at pub carpet prices — you can’t argue with that.
