Converse takes on the boot

Holding the (made up and wholly unofficial) title of ‘Footwear That Will Last For Many Many Years’, Converse trainers have a reputation for being almost indestructible.

Whether in a grotty festival field, sandy beach or swimming pool (it happens), the combination of canvas shoe, vulcanised rubber sole and logo is a marker of endurance, while also being the only item of clothing on Earth that somehow look better the dirtier they get.

And now Converse is set to snare even more fans with the Chuck Taylor All Star Fall 2012 Footwear Collection. Sporting names such as Sargent and Major Mills, the tumbled-leather boots, priced from £60, are rugged, hardwearing and more than equipped for a predictably soggy autumn. And 60 more after that…
