Rolex's Deepsea D-Blue Dial

Given his love for expensive technology and steely determination to live on the bottom of the ocean, we can't fathom how excited James Cameron will be about Rolex's latest weapon made in his honour.

The Deepsea D-Blue Dial celebrates the director’s historic solo dive to the bottom of the Mariana trench, one of the deepest places on earth, with both game-changing practicality and unfaltering style.

For one, there’s the handy Chromalight display on the dial to help illuminate any dark fathoms under the sea (or a kitchen cupboard) with a luminous blue glow lasting twice as long as those that have gone before.

For another, there’s the Rolex Ringlock system, an innovative nitrogen-alloyed, steel, grade 5 titanium and 5 mm thick, domed sapphire which allows the watch to resist pressure exerted by water at a depth of 12,800ft. Some feat.

But the deal-breaker for any deep sea explorer - it also comes packed with the Helium Escape Valve – effectively a safety valve that acts as a miniature decompression chamber for the watch by allowing the helium to escape, without compromising the waterproofness of the watch.

Oh, and as for Avatar fans - don’t worry, the dial is blue.
