NYC Fashion Week round up

While New York Fashion Week kick starts the international women’s wear show circuit, a smattering of names, such as Diesel Black Gold, Tommy Hilfiger, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Lacoste hijack the high profile event to preview their next-season menswear ranges.

Finishing last night and leaving London Fashion Week to pick up the mantle as of this morning, the overall mood in the US style capital was optimistic, with a cleaner more minimalist take on luxury sportswear and an explosion of fresh colour – coral, citrus margarita and marine blue being the most favoured.

The shortest of shorts, a trend that has been sweeping Europe for the past couple of summer seasons has finally found its way across the Atlantic, was best at Tommy Hilfiger and Lacoste.

The humble T-shirt, an American heritage classic, has been promoted up the ranks and was presented by many designers, such as Duckie Brown and Diesel Black Gold, as a statement summer wardrobe staple and in shirting fabrics and even leather. Print, as was the case at Milan Fashion Week in June is also prominent, with Hawaiian florals and retro ‘barbecue friendly’ 1950’s style abstract graphic patterns.
