The most environmentally friendly trainers ever?

The most environmentally friendly trainers ever?

Fish and feet. It might not make for the most pleasant of odours, but it's a combination that Adidas is hoping will draw attention to the plight of the world's oceans.

This contoured trainer is the result of a collaboration between the German sportswear giant and Parley for the Oceans - an organisation that strives to raise awareness about the state of the oceans and promote conservation efforts. Designed by Adidas, the shoes only use human materials reclaimed and recycled from ocean waste.

One of the filaments used in the shoe's upper is reclaimed from illegal deep-sea gillnets - a type of fishing net that can cause a vast amount of damage to sea life when it's dragged along stretches of the ocean floor, catching many rare and endangered species.

This first model is a (salty) taste of things to come, with Adidas set to use ocean plastic products in a full Parley collaboration line later this year. We'll let you know as soon as you're able to net a pair.

Here's hoping the sole doesn't take after its aquatic equivalent.
