Ben Sherman goes back to roots

Iconic label celebrates its 50th in style

Last year was a good one for mods. Sideburned cyclist Bradley Wiggins propelled himself to Olympic gold, Tour de France glory and a knighthood (as well as being named ShortList’s Man Of The Year; arguably a greater honour than all of them put together), while mop-topped Northern Soul advocate Martin Freeman conquered the box office in The Hobbit.

How, you’re no doubt asking yourself, can 2013 possibly bring more joy to the planet’s parka-clad Who fans? Well, the new range from Ben Sherman represents a decent start. The label began life in a Brighton factory in 1963 and, to celebrate 50 years, it’s unveiled a new range.

The Duke Street Foundry capsule – named after the Brighton street that housed its first shop – harks back to garments that would have been found on those racks. Highlights include the three finger button-down shirt (£125), Harrington jacket (£175), fishtail parka (£295) and polo shirt, available in both long sleeve (£85) and short (£75).

Your move, Sir Bradley. Let’s see you try to top that.
