Ever wondered what would happen if you set off fireworks in the middle of the day?

Assuming that it might be quite a damp squib, we've never investigated the subject further. But, today we've learnt that daytime fireworks is a genuinely awesome phenomenon that's been mysteriously kept from us for all these years.

Over in Qatar, Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang put on a massive display that used microchip-controlled explosives (someone watched that same fireworks video at school) to unleash a variety of stunning coloured clouds.

Come December 31st, we'll be celebrating the new year about 10 hours early. Probably with less impressive results...
