Tracking the soaring stocks and junk bonds of social media, helping you to invest carefully and speculate wisely. (By Rhodri Marsden)

Rising: @KFC_AUS

It's not an easy business, running a company Twitter account. You have to strike the right tone, post messages that promote your products but don't simultaneously irritate and annoy your online audience, respond to idiots in a polite fashion and try and hit your target of achieving X followers by the end of the quarter.

KFC Australia is doing something right, although it's not easy to pin down precisely what.

As someone who unfortunately lives and breathes social media, I would hazard a guess that this is not KFC Australia's official account. Indeed, this account seems to have almost set itself up in opposition to the real thing:

The real thing having posted the grand total of one tweet, back in November:

Meanwhile, our hero or heroine at @KFC_AUS continues to plough his or her own chickeny furrow.

This appears in the middle of the timeline, incongruously, directed at no-one in particular:

But then it's back to erratic syntax and nightmarish visions:

I'd go as far as to say that @KFC_AUS is the one thing that might actually persuade me to buy a KFC.
