Rising: Lost & Found

People lose stuff. They can't remember where they left it. They need help to find it, and so they turn to Twitter. The assumption is that the speed with which tweets can go viral, coupled with the benevolent nature of the Twitter community, will quickly resolve the situation.

And people find stuff. Stuff just appears in their vicinity, stuff that clearly has a value, and in an ideal world the person who lost it would be reunited with it. And so they turn to Twitter. The assumption is that the speed with which tweets can go viral, coupled with the benevolent nature of the Twitter community, will quickly resolve the situation.

I've no idea whether any of this feverish Twitter activity does any good, whether any of these items end up where they belong, but it's always heartening to see the enthusiasm with which people retweet them. Look, 1,500 retweets and counting. No clue as to whether it's done any good.

Some people even go to the lengths of opening a Twitter account for the object in an attempt to get rid of it – i.e. a small stuffed lion, found at a service station on 29th December last year.

Nope.

Oh, man.

Feeling depressed now.

Now I'm just waiting for a tweet that says "Sod you, then, I'm staying with this lot, they give me my own Twitter account and everything, it's great."
