Want to know what the average head of an industry looks like? Then turn your eyes to this utterly terrifying if highly fascinating graphic.
For better or worse, money-saving group SumoCoupon has used face manipulation software Psychomorph to find just this, scanning 400 different faces of male and female CEOs across 10 different US industries for the results.
The first thing you’ll notice is how shockingly white everyone is. Seriously, it’s whiter than a Michael McDonald concert. The second is that they’re as old and fuddy-looking as you’d expect, greying for the most part, with a faint outline of glasses on most of the men, along with the sort of healthy tone you’d expect of someone taking home millions per year.
Which brings us to the other head-scratcher: just how the big the pay divide between genders is. The majority of the females charted here are dwarfed in salary by a whopping 50 per cent, while another interesting point - concerning both sexes - is that the highest paid are those CEOs working in the entertainment sector, earning approximately $9m more than those working in business and technology.
Not that it’s all depressing, mind you – the graphic includes ‘start-ups’ at the bottom, bucking the trend above with some noticeably younger faces. Overall, it’s a fascinating project of those important people running our industries.
