Ten Tonne Giant Mango Stolen in Australia

mangoreddithero.jpg

Enterprising thieves have stolen a giant three-storey 10-tonne mango from the town of Bowen in Queensland, Australia.

The sculpture, a major tourist attraction worth $90,000, was reported missing when staff turned up for work; at first, they assumed it had been removed for maintenance, but when centre manager Paul McLaughlin received a call, he informed them that this was not the case.

"I came out immediately and sure enough the mango was gone. As most people would be aware, this mango is three storeys high, about 10 metres high, and weighs seven to 10 tonnes, so it’s very surprising that it’s gone."

CCTV suggests that a large crane was in the area; however, others are fearing it could be a publicity stunt, or a hoax. Workers deny this though, with staff member Christin Short telling Guardian Australia: “Definitely not, I wish it was.” However, the incident has not been reported to Queensland Police.

Security footage is currently being reviewed; the residents of Bowen will be desperately hoping their mango hasn't man-gone for good.
